Is it too stressful to transfer canaries to another cage when I clean theirs?

I have my cages hanging on the wall. I like to take them down at least every 6 weeks and scrub them out side. The poor birds are hard to catch and I worry that the stress is too much. I can’t really clean with them in the cage…they get frightened of a big hand in there.

it would be better just to leave the birds inside the cage, because they are scared of your hands, they will be even more freaked out by getting picked up, after a while the may or may not get used to having a hand that does not touch them in their cage. It really depends on how hard it is to get them out of their own cage and into another.

The more you do it the more they will get used to it. They are skittish birds anyway, but there’s really no other way to clean the cage. They should be fine, they’re not going to die because of it.
