How can I rescue a parakeet that's at my bird feeder?

Hi. I have seen a blue and white baby parakeet at my bird feeder outside off and on for the last 6 weeks and it’s getting colder at night. (In Idaho) I didn’t think I would see it again after we had a freeze warning 2 nights ago and then it rained yesterday but it was at the feeder 3 times today. I’ve tried a cage with my conure’s food in it along with a tent and a towel over the cage and no sign of it going in. I even held food in my hand up to it and it looked at it but then flew away. I’ve heard to soak them down so they can’t fly but it hangs out in a tree where if it was too wet to fly it could land in the yard next door where there is a pit bull and another big dog. :( I’m so worried now that it’s in the low 40’s at night and will be getting colder soon.

Thanks!

What would be a good type of bird for me?

im a beginner in keeping birds but my dad used to have an aviary with budgies and quails.

Should I try a new bird cage for 23-yr-old ring-neck dove?

We’ve had him for 23 years—–he’s actually a little older than that—–and he’s been in the same cage all that time. We do let him out to fly a little bit in our basement almost every day. I’ve been wondering about constructing some sort of larger caged environment for him, but I read that it’s unwise to change what an older bird is used to. Any advice?

Is stainless steel paint(spray) safe for birds?

Hi, I’m buying a used flight cage for my lovebirds because I want them to exercise and it’s not safe to let them fly around the house because of my cat.I can’t afford a new cage(usually ranging from 400~up)at the moment. So I was thinking on repainting it with a stainless steel paint that I bought online http://liquidstainlesssteel.com/products.html
I read that stainless steel cages are the best for birds so would it be safe for the birds if I repaint the cage?I want the cage to look like new because it’s going to go on the living room.Any other ideas of safe paint for birds?
Thanks,
Ana

Why is it cruel to keep a bird in a cage?

I keep seeing answers to questions that just state that keeping birds in cages is cruel and all birds should fly free. Well, I want to know your reasoning and I’d like you to consider a few things.
We keep fish in tanks. Fish are usually in millions of gallons of water, yet it’s acceptable to keep them in 5, 10, 20 gallon tanks? Why don’t you oppose that?
Rodents are outside where they have miles of space and they don’t need a wheel to run on just to stay healthy, yet it’s ok to stick them in a tiny cage?
Dogs and cats in the wild have acres and acres all to themselves, yet it’s acceptable to coop them up in a kennel, house or backyard?
And here’s the kicker- Children in Africa living outside also have miles to roam around. Why are our children expected to stay in the house or yard? They need exercise, too.
So, stop telling me that it’s cruel to keep birds in cages. Most pet birds are treated better than humans, so start focusing your energy on people who really do mistreat animals.
Now, I am against people who coop up their birds in small cages and don’t let them out to play. THAT is wrong, but for people like me who have ridiculously large cages and let their birds out all the time to play, I don’t see the harm.
Also, the whole flying issue. Some birds like to fly, others don’t. Most don’t have a preference. If the bird is getting fat because it can’t fly and needs more exercise, then you should let it fly-on a leash.

Birds in cages—is this as awful as clipping their wings?

If you’re a bird lover, as am I, how can
you defend caging them? Even
the largest cage wouldn’t be big enough
for a creature that’s made to fly.
Please help me understand why
caging birds is practiced by
people who are bird lovers.

Why does someone keeping the bird in the cage?

birds are meant to fly right, so why do we keep bird in cages?

Why do humans lock up birds in cages?

Birds have wings and are supposed to fly. Why do humans feel it’s acceptable to lock them in cages? If you own a bird in a cage, I’d like to hear your justification for doing so.

I need to know how to design my bird cage!?

I’m getting an adult white ringneck dove soon. I really need to know how to make her cage look. She can’t fly very well (I’ve met her before). Can I get a picture or a decription on how to do it? It will be just one dove in this cage and everywhere i look it talks about several doves in one cage. Does she need a nest available at all times or toys hanging from the top?

wood bird cages?

I bought my 2 year old son some zebra finches, and I have been looking for an oak bird cage, the type you see when you go to a nursing home or something like that. Does anybody know where I can find one?
when I looked at averies, it didn’t show what i was looking for, when I look on ebay they don’t have them either. I asked my husband to build me one and he laughed at me…
they are for my 2 year old, but we use them to teach him the colors and he loves to watch them. He sat on our couch for a good hour watching them. And that was the type I was looking for. But I clean the cage everyday. All he does is talk about the birds and how they fly and what colors he sees.

Quaker Bird Cages – Ways to keep it locked?

A friend of mine just bought a bird cage, but learned her mother was allergic or something to birds, so I bought it off her hands for my incoming Quaker birdie. I know they are smart and that they can easily open cages without a locking mechanism. This one has no lock whatsoever, it’s just one of those that you life up the door to get access inside the cage. I’m afraid that the bird will get it open and fly about, so I was wondering if there was anything to go on and off to lock the door, and if so where can I find it? And getting another cage is out of the question right now. Any help is appreciated!
Here is what it looks like–

I also found this site from someone who said it was a good item, but I am still not fully 100% sure, I don’t wanna poison the bird or anything.

What bird cage should I get?

Hello, I am pretty set on a new larger cage I am getting for my lovebirds, but I wanted to see what insight I could get. Never hurts — I really like this tall cage, that is about three feet wide, and about four feet tall. There is another cage this exotic bird store owner is pushing, that is about three feet by three feet, and he says it’s better since lovebirds stay high anyway, and it comes with a stand that makes it a tad higher than the other one (which I can still put on something else ot make it higher. With the stand, both are about 0. There are other option salso — one is a sturdier three by three foot cage with a stand and looks real nice and is the same price (but it does have a BIG door and I dont want to clip my birds’ wings). And at Petsmart htey have these larger cages in now that are about two feet wide by two to three feet tall — I dont like the width on them, though they look large compared to usual cages there. What do you guys have for lovebirds?
thanks!
And before you lecture me on getting two lovebirds, they are adopted birds who had no other home, and they love each other. They also have been playing with me, and are slowly getting used to me so I am not interested in the opinion that I should just have one bird, I think they are happy having a companion and a human friend and I take very good care of them. If I don’t give them attention they cry out for me and get excited when I come over. They are NOT decorations to me simply because I have two, and they are not uncared for just because I don’t force them to love only me. OK, I am sure people will still say I did something wrong, but my pets are all very loved. Their current cage, which I just got them in when I adopted them two weeks ago, is only two by two feet so I just need a better home for them, for more toys and so they can move their wings. I do plan on letting them out to fly a little in a safetly enclosed room.
Hari: ‘Take’ a decision?
Thanks Rhiannan: Three feet seems as big as I can find.. is that OK. I can keep looking for four feet if it’s out there. Unlike terrariums, you can’t really turn birdcages over, and they all seem skinny and tall … thanks!!
