Caring for a injured bird the cat brought in the house?

My cat (whom we thought we plugged the hole she was getting in and out of) brought in an injured juvenile sparrow. He is missing all the feathers and skin under his wings and has a quarter sized patch on the back where she tore the feathers and skin off. There is no where to take him in my area and I will not free him to die. I had him in a box, but he was going crazy so I borrowed a large bird cage and now he is happily sleeping on a perch. He is not in shock and seems like he is handling it pretty well so far. I am treating him with oxytetracycline with a dropper that he is taking well. I put neosporin on the wounds and gave him food and water. I even got him to eat a worm. Is there anything else I can do for him? I also have the cage covered. I brought him inside to keep him warm since the temperature gets low still at night here.

Im either buying rats or a bird…you decide?

I have done my research on both. I was thinking of 2 female rats or a budgie, parakeet or lovebird. I have a cage suitable for a bird or rats.

It is originally a large bird cage but I have made 3 stories out of it which are easy to take out if I do get a bird.

Let me know what pet you recommend and why, and your past experiences.

Thank you
Im deciding between bird and rat because I want to train them.

bird cage for iguana?

Bird cage floor is not flat, is this a problem?

I’ve got a cockateil in a large bird cage, the cage came from the same store as the bird. Anyway, it’s floor is a wire mesh suspended above a plastic poop tray, so the bird, when not on it’s perches, walks along a surface which is not a flat surface, it doesn’t seem to mind, and I would assume getting its talons around the wire cage mesh floor is totally fine as in the wild they walk on twigs on trees, which have a similar circumfrence and hardness. My grandma says it should be a flat floor, like I should put some paper down or something, but as I said, there is a poop tray below the surface, and poop belongs in that, not on any substrate in the actual cage, like she is calling for. My grandma’s bird cage, a separate cage and a similar bird, has a plastic floor that is flat. My grandma is suggesting that my cage floor is a problem, what do you think? I feel that they wouldn’t make and sell cages with floors that were inappropriate, and I kind of just wanna show my grandma these answers
Thankyou to all those who replied in the first quarter hour. Grandma will be pleased.

Will freezing my bird seed kill the meal moths? How long to freeze it?

The infestation of moths (1/4 inch long fluttery things) began about 4 weeks ago and steadily has increased. I believe it was in the 3 bags of various bird seeds that were near the large bird cage. How long does the seed need to be frozen to kill all stages of the moth/caterpillar/eggs?

Will it even work?
Thanks

Can i use a large bird cage as housing for my Veiled Chamelon?

I was wondering if i could use a large square bird cage in replace of a regular chameleon screen cage.
The extra large chameleon cages are so expensive and I don’t see any problem with using a large bird cage instead. Is there any reason why i shouldn’t use a bird cage for my chameleon?

Make your Bird tweet with Large Bird Cages

Large bird cages are the most ideal among all the cage types for even the smallest avian pets. The bigger the cage and space, the better it is for the bird. For those who do not understand the responsibilities involved in owning a winged animal, there are many factors to think of. It is simply not just about buying a bird and stuffing it inside a cage. Like man, it means giving them all the basic necessities not only to survive but for them to thrive in the artificial environment. A bird has to have all the basic needs. Proper food, water and shelter affect the health and happiness of the bird. Unhappy birds are aggressive and uncooperative.

Large is actually a relative word when it comes to the size of their habitat. The size of the bird cage depends on the wing span of your pet. The basic rule is that the bird should be able to stretch its wings without touching any side of the cage. African Greys, Parrots, Cockatoos or Macaws all need a bar width spacing of at least an inch. These are ideal for birds who like to climb or make short flights. The cage should also have a large opening, so that it’s easier for the owner to take the bird out when needed. There are many materials and styles to choose from. There are some cages that have dual openings. The owner can open it on top and on the sides. There are also cages that are specialized for each type of bird. There are large parrot aviary cages, mini macaw cages or cockatoo bird cages.

It can be made out of different materials like stainless steel, brass, aluminum, wood, wire, acrylic or iron. The most important factor in determining the best material to use is the durability of the material. Wood may look beautiful but some breeds tend to chew on the bars or unlock the opening with their beaks unless of course, there is a plan to change the cage every year or so. Metal is by far more recommended because it doesn’t corrode. The food and animal acids that touch rattan bamboos or oak bird cages easily moistens and rots the wood, thereby ruining it.

The most basic rule of thumb though is to buy the largest cage on the price range you can afford and on the amount of space available in your house. No matter what the price range though, owners should take care of the cage and maintain it as much as possible. If possible, clean it everyday with wet cloth and take out the droppings as needed.

With such an expansive space to live in, most of our winged friends won’t mind being caged.
