Would it be ok to have a bird cage in a room with the fan on at night if the cage was covered?
I was wondering because my room gets pretty hot at night. If I covered the cage with a blanket or towel. Would it be ok for the birds and still keep the fan on? I could also put a heat source in there if it got too cold.
I’m sorry i was a little distracted by someone saying that birds don’t need direct sunlight. They probably just forgot that pet birds are just a generation or three from living in the wild.
Sometimes people also forget that cool temperatures don’t make anyone bird or humans sick. Germs and viruses are what actually cause illnesses. Temperature changes just cause weakened immune systems, making normal viruses difficult to fight.
So as long as you are keeping the cage and dishes clean…a fan is not going to be any worse than the rainy season in the rain forest. I know breeders that keep sun conures outside in aviaries during the winter, (Missouri winters include snow, ice and temperatures below freezing) but they are slowly climatically adjusted and have heaters during the extreme coldness.
I would introduce the fan slowly, using it once to twice a week and slowly work up to using it every night. I have a mitred conure that absolutely loves to sit in front of a fan. He flaps his wings in an attempt to pretend he is flying really fast.
I.
Even with a towel it probably wouldn’t be good cause they’re not wind proof XP
Birds should be in draft free areas without direct sunlight ;D
It’s okay to have the fan on only if the air from the fan is aimed at you and not the birds. If you have one of those rotating fans, make sure you set it to where it doesn’t rotate so you get all the air, not the birds. Even though they’re covered they can still feel the air, and they won’t be comfortable sleeping.
